Since 2015, the bulk of the Salmon Museum’s fund-raising efforts have been focused on our Chase the Ace lottery, an extremely popular event held every Friday evening all year round in our River Room. The Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation Chase the Ace lottery has sold out.

The sell out means $1 million has been raised for the Saskatchewan Roughriders Foundation.

Executive Director Cindy Fuchs says the money raised will go towards football programs in Saskatchewan.

“This includes our elite teams for educational scholarships as well as Football Sask,” Fuchs said. “It also goes to support other foundation programs like Raise a Reader, Grow the Game, ‘Pass, Punt, Kick,’ there’s a number of different opportunities and things that we do within the community that we provide support to and this will help us continue to do that, even during COVID-19.”

The lottery began in June and has been played every Friday during the Sportscage on 620 CKRM.

There are less than 20 cards left. If this week’s winner does not select the Ace of Spades, another name will be drawn until the jackpot of $602,000 is won.

Fuchs says the sell out is due to a preset amount of tickets sold and money raised.

“This was so successful that we sold out sooner than we thought we would,” Fuchs said. “We could’ve perhaps maybe thought we would sell more, but now we know. This is the first time we tried this.”

Objective

The object of the game is to avoid having the lowest ranking card at the end of each round; otherwise, you will lose a token.

Game Play

Chase The Ace Lottery

The player left of the dealer is first to play. During a turn, players can decide to keep their current card or exchange cards with the player on their left.

If a player decides to exchange, the player on the left must exchange unless he/she is holding a king. If the dealer wants to exchange his/her card, he/she will draw the top card of the discard pile.

After every player has had a turn, the cards are flipped up. The player with the lowest ranking card loses a token.

Game

Win

The last player with tokens wins the game.

Rules

  • Players must exchange their cards when requested, except if holding a king. If a player has a king and is asked to exchange, no exchange occurs, and the king is flipped up.

  • A dealer cannot exchange for a king from the deck. If a king is the top card, the dealer is stuck with his/her original card.

  • If two players tie for the lowest ranking card in a round, they both lose a token. A variation can be played where tying players are safe, and the lowest unique ranking card loses a token.

  • Once a player is out of tokens, he/she is out of the game.

  • If two players are left in the game and tie, neither player loses a token. The final deal is re-dealt.
